8th February: You’re Not Like Other Girls Chrissy. Hatch Beauchamp village hall. 6.45pm (for bar and food). January 1945, Paris has been liberated. Christiane, an eccentric, acutely myopic Parisian girl waits at Gare du Nord for a ticket to England to be reunited with her fiancé. While she waits, this gloriously irrepressible mademoiselle recounts the story of her love affair with Cyril, a tongue-tied English teacher from Staffordshire. From a chance encounter at Cheadle tennis club, their story takes us through 1930s Paris and the trials of separation, when war interrupts their unlikely romance. 01823 481909
8th – 29th February: In the Zone tour. At-Bristol. How do athletes move so fast and jump so high? What happens inside our bodies when we’re ‘in the zone’? This year the Wellcome Trust is leading a London 2012-inspired UK-wide initiative – In the Zone – bringing to life the science behind your body and how it works during exercise, movement and rest. Come to At-Bristol in February to test your body to the max! See how high you can jump, look at your veins, test your reactions to light and sound and measure your speed on our very own running track! This exhibition, designed and delivered by At-Bristol, will tour the UK between March and September 2012 as part of In the Zone, engaging people of all ages with the science of our amazing human body relating to sport and movement. 11th – 14th February: The Judgement of Macbeth, the egg, Theatre Royal Bath. When trapeze artists are suspended from the ceiling of the egg, they are like Macbeths, stuck in limbo. 12th February: Circle of Tales. A myth from Africa. Mark Village Hall. It all started so long ago, before there were any stories. One day a woman, called Mazanendaba, set out to search for stories. She hunted up and down mountains and through thick bush, asking the help of friendly and fierce animals, until wise Elephant told her where she could find the secret of wonderful storytelling. ‘Circle of Tales’ is told with African and English words and song, wood and wire puppets and the sweet, sweet sounds of music played on traditional African instruments. Puppetcraft will also be running a music workshop before the show for families from six years and up, who will get to play their lovely wood and metal instruments. 01278 641370

14th – 18th February: Strictly Gershwin English National Ballet. Bristol Hippodrome. A dazzling celebration of George Gershwin and the sparkling age of Hollywood music and dance. Gershwin’s ‘Rhapsody in Blue’ and ‘An American in Paris’ combine with sensational choreography to conjure up the Silver Screen genius of Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers and Gene Kelly. 22nd February: The Secret Garden presented by Angel Exit. The Brewhouse theatre & arts centre. 7.45pm. Transplanted from India to a grey house on the Yorkshire moors, spoilt orphan, Mary Lennox, encounters locked doors, a curious robin and strange cries ringing down the corridor. Angel Exit unearth the dark heart of this classic tale and retell it in their trademark style, blending ensemble storytelling, striking physicality, beautiful puppets and original music. 28th February – 3rd March: The Wizard of Oz presented by Bath Operatic and Dramatic Society. Theatre Royal Bath. Hugely successful adaptation originally written for the Royal Shakespeare Company, based on the novel and 1939 film. Dorothy Gale is a teenager who lives on a Kansas farm who daydreams of going ‘over the rainbow’. Along with her house and her dog Toto, she is swept up by a tornado which drops her in the beautiful land of Oz. Here she befriends a scarecrow, a tin man and a cowardly lion and together they set off down the Yellow Brick Road to find the mysterious Wizard of Oz, each hoping he will be able to grant them their heart’s desire. 3rd March: Kid Carpet & The Noisy Animals. Castle Cary primary school. 3pm. ‘Kid Carpet & The Noisy Animals’ follows the adventures of the charismatic singer and his animal band as they make friends, play games, contemplate the world and finally rock out at a grand dance contest.
